The Bahamas

The Bahamas

We’re back from our tropical getaway to the Bahamas and I’m already having withdrawals. We had such an amazing time- relaxing on the beach, sipping piña colodas, exploring local Nassau-it was absolutely perfect! We stayed at the Melià Beach Resort, which is located on Cable Beach, just minutes from downtown Nassau. Every day we woke up early, grabbed Starbucks, and headed to the beach to settle into one of the cabanas for the day. It was so nice to lounge on the beach and enjoy the picturesque views.

My favorite part of our trip was the snorkeling excursion that we saved for the very last day. Stuart Cove’s navigated the trip, which took us to three different locations in the Atlantic Ocean- the Little Elvis (named after the King himself), Hollywood Cove, and the shark observatory. The Little Elvis was a more shallow reef, where got to see different types of corals and fish. Hollywood Cove is actually a famous reef  for snorkeling as it has served as a prime filming location for many movies including Jaws, Thunderball, & Into the Blue. Our last stop was the most terrifying. Not only did we get to “observe” sharks from the boat, but we also got to swim with them. That’s right, physically get in the water with them! Our boat released a bucket of chum in the water to draw the sharks near us, while everyone that wanted to participate held onto a rope in the water. The sharks could then swim around us. The sharks we swam with are considered reef sharks, so they don’t prey on humans, but there is always a chance they could! It was such a surreal experience and definitely great way to end our trip.

I’m was so mad at myself for not having an underwater camera to document our snorkeling excursion, but I did manage to snap a few pics once I got back onto the boat. Here’s a glimpse at our vacation:
