Rainy Day Style

On gloomy, rainy days, like today, I have to force myself to get out of bed. Who wants to go to work when there is hurricane like winds and the potential I could ruin a pair of shoes stepping in a puddle? I certainly don’t! But, for those days I have to brave the weather-I put together a rainy day look that is weatherproof yet doesn’t sacrifice style.

Garden Party

This past Sunday, my boyfriend surprised me with a day date to Maclay Gardens.  With temps in the mid 70’s, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to spend the day outside and even in January, the garden was blooming. We laid out by the lake, strolled through a secret garden and used my new camera to capture the whole experience. The garden had such a whimsical feel. I couldn’t take my eyes off the oriental magnolias. It was the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I’m anticipating a trip back in March or April when everything will be in full bloom.

Weekend Warrior

Since I have a full-time job, I always try to fit in as much fun as I can on the weekends. However, this weekend was spent relaxing. Still recovering from being sick, some much needed R & R was in order. I caught up on sleep, enjoyed breakfast in bed and went on a day date to Maclay Gardens. The weather was beautiful and I am so glad I got to spend some quality time soaking up some sun. I can’t believe it’s already Monday but here are some highlights of the weekend:

Cold Weather Essentials

It’s FLU season! It seems like everyone I know, including myself, has been getting sick recently. To make things worse, I lack the ability to swallow pills (Yes, really) so when I find myself getting sick I am always looking for natural alternatives to soothe my symptoms. While there is no cure for the common cold, I have made a list of my favorite items to help comfort me when I’m feeling under the weather.

Baked Brie en Croute

IMG_0094

My boyfriend and I took a trip to Savannah, GA last March to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Amongst our many stops on River Street, we swung by Savannah Bee Company. They sell the most amazing pure and naturally organic honey supplies and beauty products. I bought the Everyday Honey set which includes a tea, grill and cheese honey. I have already used the tea and grill honey numerous times but couldn’t figure out what to do with the cheese honey. I decided to recreate one of my favorite appetizers from The Wine Loft, a baked brie en croute with a vanilla honey drizzle, using this super simple recipe. The warm brie and honey paired together made the perfect afternoon snack. I served mine with crackers, grapes and some chammomile tea but you can also serve it with your favorite white wine.

Golden Globe Soiree

The beginning of the year always provides entertaining television. Playoff football, the Superbowl and the Oscars all take place in the first months of the new year. While I mainly watch the Superbowl for the commercials, I’ll never pass up the opportunity to enjoy a fancy, red carpet event. A week ago, I threw together a “Golden Globe Soiree,” a casual get together made formal with the use of silly straws, champagne and my golden caramel cupcakes. I chose to go with an “Old Hollywood” theme of red and gold/yellow. I made homemade popcorn  and  guests could help themselves to mini bries’ and crackers. I handed out printables that I found here so we could vote on all the major categories. The highlight of the evening was “Argo” winning best picture (my boyfriend and I are major Ben Affleck fans).  This soiree can easily be recreated for any awards ceremony. In fact, the Oscars are February 24th, which means I need to start plannning sooner rather than later!
