Splurge or Save: Gold Dot Scarf

2013-11-09_16-32-54

It’s time to pull out the cold weather wear because winter is here! One of  my favorite winter accessories is a scarf. I use it to spruce up a plain t-shirt, add dimension to my outfit, and obviously, keep my neck warm. This gold polka dot scarf from Chapters Indigo is perfect for the holiday season. The soft blush color is a nice winter neutral while the gold dots add a bit of glitz. But for half the price, Target has a similar option with smaller dots. Both options are equally great for a chic look this Thanksgiving!

“In an old house in Paris that was covered with vines
Lived twelve little girls in two straight lines
In two straight lines they broke their bread
And brushed their teeth and went to bed.
They left the house at half past nine
In two straight lines in rain or shine-
The smallest one was Madeline.” -Ludwig Bemelmans, Madeline

I’ve always been a fan of Madeline. I read every one of her books as a child, always watched her TV Show, and since she is petite like me, I was inspired to recreate Ludwig Bemelmans’ famous character for Halloween. Plus, she is French which made me want to do it even more! I found this dress from Target, tied a red sash around my collar, threw on some ruffle socks with black flats, and added a sun hat to complete the look. I’m really happy with how it came out and am hoping it will help me win my company’s costume contest tomorrow. Happy Halloween Eve!

Beach Bound

photo

TGIF! My mom and I are headed to Tybee Island this weekend for a girls only beach trip and some much needed R&R. Since the weather seems to be permanently rainy here in Atlanta, we figured we could find some sun on Georgia’s Golden Coast. Keeping my fingers crossed! I’m mainly packing light, casual outfits that can be dressed up with statement pieces and heels. I was particularly drawn to this Tribal Print dress from Target. It’s perfect for a day at the beach, but with the right accessories, can easily be worn out on River Street. I’m always finding great, affordable pieces there. This Mint Ruffle Bikini is also a Target find. I love how girly it is and can’t wait to finally wear it. Hope you all have a great weekend! I’m off to sun bathe!

Beach Bag Essentials

Summer is in full swing here in Atlanta. The days are sunny (most of the time) and the temp’s are in the 80’s, which means that most of my weekends are spent at the pool. I always like to keep a well stocked beach bag on hand. You know, for those impromptu invitations to the pool. This straw tote is the perfect summer bag. It’s large enough to hold all your beach essentials, yet stylish enough to wear out. I always keep an extra bathing suit and cover up in my bag, along with a cosmetic pouch to hold all my valuables: iPhone, jewelry, chapstick etc. Just add a hat, sunnies, and a towel and you are ready for a day at the pool. Oh yeah, don’t forget the SPF!

When it comes to holidays, I do my best to always dress the part. Saint Patrick’s Day is no different. Yes, I’ll wear green to avoid getting pinched, but it’s no excuse to wear a cheesy, novelty tee with a shamrock on it. I put together this green ensemble that is feminine  and chic, without breaking the bank. I found this green lace shift dress at Target and as fate would have it, it was the only one left and in my size. I snagged it right away! Mint, my favorite shade of green, is trending right now for Spring. I incorporated some mint accessories, which really pulled the outfit together. Not only am I ready for St. Patrick’s Day, but this is something I can wear all season.
